THE COUNCIL OF CANADIANS is a national public interest group, committed to
opposing corporate rule and protecting social programs by promoting
democracy.  We have 100,000 members coast-to-coast.
We are looking for an Ottawa-based Campaigner to work on The Council's
campaigns Team and other issues related to our mandate.   The Campaigner
is responsible for the planning and delivery of all elements of the assigned
campaign including:
* developing and maintaining Council expertise on the specific issue
campaign(s);
* developing strategy in collaboration with other staff to achieve the
campaign goals and to support and develop grass-roots activism;
* researching and developing campaign materials (e.g. fact sheets,
briefing notes, etc.);
* developing and maintaining working relationships with relevant
organizations, coalitions, media, politicians, bureaucrats, etc.
* overseeing and participating in the implementation of planned campaign
and organizing activities in collaboration with other staff (e.g. lobbying,
workshops, "days of action," popular education events, conferences, etc.)
including logistical elements and oversight of event staff/volunteers;

You will need:
* demonstrated excellence as a campaigner including the development,
planning and implementation of creative and inspiring public campaigning,
* proven skills and experience in political analysis, communications,
government and media relations, and working with local and national
groups;
* a commitment to social and economic justice issues and a good knowledge
of the political issues related to The Council's work;
* flexibility, and enthusiasm for a rapidly changing work plan and a sense
of humour;
* ability to prioritize, to think and act in a self-directed manner and to
play a constructive role as part of a broader staff team.

This position forms part of The Council of Canadians Campaigns and
Communications team. We offer a unionized environment, excellent benefits,
a pay scale of $47,352 to $51,656 and the chance to make a difference! The
Campaigner position is a one year term, full-time position.
